@@With rapid progress and remarkable technological developments in Japan during the early 1960's, every field of our society felt the need for trained technical experts. This led to the establishment of new type of a higher educational institution, the college of technology. A college of technology admits students from junior high school, who then study one organized curriculum for five years.
@@Tomakomai National College of Technology was founded on April 1, 1964. Originally, it had three departments: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Chemistry. In 1969, the department of Civil Engineering was added. In 1990, the department of Computer Science and Engineering was added. In 1994, the department if Industrial Chemistry was reorganized into the department of Science and Engineering for Materials. In 1995, the curriculum of the department of Civil Engineering was revised. In 2000, the department name of Electrical Engineering was changed into Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Further in 2003, the Advanced Engineering Courses were established.

1963 Dec.30It was decided that there should be a national college of technology in Tomakomai.
1964 Apr. 1Tomakomai National College of technology founded by Ministry of Education.
Dr. MANAI Kouzo, professor at Hokkaido University took office as the first president.
1965 Mar.24The first part of school and dormitory building construction was completed.
1966 Mar.15The Second part of the construction was completed. The construction of the gymnasium also was finished.
Nov.20The third part of the construction was completed.
1967 Oct.26The anniversary of the founding of the college celebrated.
1969 Apr. 1The department of Civil Engineering was added.
1970 Feb.20The fourth part of the construction was completed.
1971 Apr. 1Dr. FUKUTOMI Takaharu, professor at Hokkaido University took office as the second president.
1973 Mar.15The construction of the Library was completed.
Apr. 1Dr. OHTSUKA Hiroshi, professor at Hokkaido University took office as the third prisident.
1974 Oct.15The 10th anniversary of the founding of the college celebrated.
1978 Dec.25The construction of the second gym was completed.
1980 Mar.24The construction of the Lecturer Building was completed.
1981 Apr. 1Dr. HANZAWA Hiroshi, professor emeritus at Hokkaido University took office as the fourth president.
1983 Sep.26The construction of the Welfare Facilities was completed.
1985 Mar.11The construction of the fourth dormitory Building was completed.
1987 Apr. 1The construction of the Media Center was completed.
1988 Apr. 1Dr. ISHII Tadao, professor emeritus at Hokkaido University took office as the fifth president.
1989 Oct. 6The 25th anniversary of the founding of the college celebrated.
1990 Apr. 1The department of Computer Science and Engineering was added.
1992 Mar.26The construction of the Computer Science and Engineering Building was completed.
Apr. 1The curriculum was drastically changed and five-day system came into operation.
1993 Apr. 1Dr. SAKUMA Tetsurou, professor emeritus at Hokkaido University took office as the sixth president.
Apr.28The Association for Tomakomai National College of Technology was founded.
1994 Apr. 1The department of Industrial Chemistry was reorganized into the department of Science and Engineering for Materials.
1995 Apr. 1The curriculum of the department of Civil Engineering was revised.
1996 Feb.29The construction of the Science and Engineering for Materials Laboratory was completed.
2000 Apr. 1The department name of Electrical Engineering was changed into Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Oct.10The construction of the Community Cooperative Research Center was completed.
2001 Apr. 1Dr. ITOH Kiyohiko, professor emeritus at Hokkaido University took office as the seventh president.
Dec.25The construction of the women's dormitory Building was completed.
2003 Apr. 1The Advances Engineering Courses (Electronics and Production Systems Engineering Course, Environmental Systems Engineering Course) were established.
2004 Apr. 1Tomakomai National College of Technology became under Institute of National College of Technology, Japan.
Department of General Education was reorganized as Department Human and Social Sciences and Department of National and Physical Sciences.
2004 Sep.25The 40th anniversary of the founding of the college celebrated.
2005 Mar.11The construction of the Advances Engineering Courses Building was completed.
2007 Apr. 1As part of the restructuring of the administrative section, three divisions (General Affairs Division, Finance Affairs Division, and Students Affairs Division) were reorganized as two divisions (Administration Affairs Division and Student Affairs Division).
2008 Apr. 1Dr. AKIYAMA Toshihiko, professor emeritus at Asahikawa National College of Technology took office as the eighth president.
2009 Feb. 1Support Center (for Engineering and Education) were established.
2009 Apr. 3Support Center (for Engineering and Education) Office was completed.
