Our Aim at TNCT

Educational Philosophy

 As an institution of higher learning, Tomakomai National College of Technology (TNCT) accepts students with an interest in science and technology and encourages their mental and physical development while placing emphasis on individual character and capability. The College provides students with specialized knowledge and skills based on broad education and practical approach to manufacturing in order to cultivate creative engineers equipped with the capacity for taking subjective action applicable to the international community while also responding to the demands of the times.

Academic and Educational Objectives

(a) Academic and educational objectives of TNCT
(A)Sophistication: be considerate towards nature and the environment from a global standpoint and gain a broad view of history, culture, society and other subjects;
(B)Logic and Responsibility: gain a conception of logic and sense of responsibility as an engineer;
(C)Communication: gain skills in presentation proficiency, in providing descriptions, making announcements and engaging in debates in Japanese, and in other fundamental linguistic capacities for effective communication in the global arena;
(D)Engineering Fundamentals: gain basic knowledge and applied skills in mathematics, natural sciences, information technology and engineering;
(E)Sustained Study: gain the ability to engage in independent and sustained study while remaining conscientious of one’s role as of an engineer;
(F)Specialized, Practical Skills: have specialized skills in particular areas of expertise within the field of engineering that relates to manufacturing, and gain the ability to practically implement these skills;
(G)Practical Skills in Multiple Areas: have an understanding of other areas of expertise that can be considered in conjunction with one’s own specialized areas and gain proficiency in technological application that can be applied to problem-solving in border areas;
(H)Relevant, Applicable Skills: recognize skills relevant to the demands of the times and which are applicable to the demands of society, and gain proficiency in design, development and management skills in order to systemize and productize upon application of these skills;
(I)Teamwork: gain the ability to work as a team not only with engineers from one’s own specialized fields of expertise but from other fields as well, in order to execute projects in a smooth and systematic manner.
