Department of Engineering for Innovation

Features of Learning

FEATURE

FEATURE 01

The "one department and five divisions" system is utilized in the concentrated study of specialized fields.

Tomakomai College has adopted the “one department and five divisions” system. Rather than setting a specialized course at enrollment, students are allowed a full year to choose a specialty suited to their own aptitude. From the second year, education is divided into 5 divisions to focus on a specialized field of study.
In addition to acquiring engineering expertise and interdisciplinary ability, this new educational system allows students to develop abilities needed for an enriched humanity, a broad perspective, and innovation, which are essential for the next generation. From the 4th year, education is divided into specialized courses or the Frontier Course.

FEATURE 02

The power to create a new generation is developed through our original subjects.

Educational contents are the effective combination of general subjects (mathematics, English, and Japanese, etc.) and specialized engineering subjects, in order for students to easily acquire the practicality and creativity necessary in "manufacturing (monozukuri)."
In addition, the ability to create a new generation is cultivated through our original subjects "Creative Engineering" and "AI and Data Science". From the 5th year, graduate research is carried out as the culmination of 5 years of study.

Students can learn knowledge
required to become a
business manager in the future.

Frontier Course

In addition to studying specialized engineering from the 4th year, students learn management-related subjects needed to become a company manager or project leader in the future.

Hybrid innovative human resources who can lead the next generation through "Engineering" + "Management" are trained.

What are hybrid innovative human resources?

  • Human resources capable of next generation business start-ups
  • Human resources capable of being the center of a company or government agency in the region
  • Human resources capable of being project leaders in major companies, etc. with excellent business sense.
  • Human resources capable of competing internationally.
